Winners of the third day of the competition announced

On June 26, the winner and prize-winners of the C category cellists of the VIII International Saulius Sondeckis Young Violinist and Cellist Competition were announced. The international jury, headed by Prof. D. Gering, awarded the first place to the Lithuanian representative Marija Sokolova (teacher Onutė Švabauskaitė, concertmaster Sergej Liachnovič). The second place was awarded to the young Lithuanian cellist Smiltė Petrošiūtė (teacher Asta Krištaponienė, concertmaster Goda Stanionytė). She also received a diploma for the best performance of a work by a Lithuanian composer. Third place went to the Latvian cellist Paula Kokoreviča (teacher Diana Ozolina, concertmaster Ilzė Dzerve).

The first round of the B category violinist competition was also held. The evaluation committee announced that five participants have qualified for the second round: Agnė Marozaitė (Lithuania), Eloisa Marie Aubert (Luxembourg), Bernadeta Januškaitė (Lithuania), Eleanor Susanna Türk (Estonia) and Annaliisa Aren (Estonia).

On June 27, the auditions for the 8th International Saulius Sondeckis Young Violinists Competition will be held at the Šiauliai Singing School “Dagilėlis” from 10 a.m.
