Winners and diplomas of category C violinists and category B cellists announced on the second day of the competition

On June 25, auditions for the participants of the VIII International Saulius Sondeckis Young Violinists and Cellists Competition continued, after which the winners of the category C violinists and category B cellists competitions were announced. The best violinist and laureate of the competition in category C was Bartosz Olszewski (Poland). The second place diploma was also awarded to the Polish representative – Witold Waszkiewicz, who also won the award “For the best performance of a work by a Lithuanian composer”. Third place went to Latvian violinist Elfa Lejniece.

In the category D cellists competition, the first place went to the Latvian representative Regina Kuzmicova. The second place was awarded to her sister Rebeka Kuzmicova. Diplomas were awarded to three participants in this category. The following became the graduates: Latvian representatives Edgars Kusiņš and Katrina Meldraja and Lithuanian representative Pranas Razmus, who was awarded the award for the best performance of a work by Lithuanian composers.

On June 25, a special press conference was held in the Šiauliai City Municipality Council Hall, where the director of Šiauliai Saulius Sondeckis Arts Gymnasium Dr. Regina Marozienė, the artistic director of the competition Nijolė Prascevičienė, Šiauliai City Mayor Artūras Visockas and members of the competition's violinist and cellist evaluation committees – prof. Zakhar Bron, prof. David Geringas, as well as evaluation committee member Michael Strichards, who presented the awards established by his name foundation to the young performers, prof. Audronė Žiaitytė-Nekrošienė.

The 8th International Saulius Sondeckis Young Violinist Competition will continue on June 26, where the competition programs will be performed by violinists of the I round of category B and cellists of the II round of categories C and D.
