The 8th International Saulius Sondeckis Competition for Young Violinists and Cellists has started
On June 22, the 8th International Saulius Sondeckis Young Violinist and Cellist Competition has started in Šiauliai, organized by Šiauliai Saulius Sondeckis Arts Gymnasium. 38 participants from 9 countries are participating in the cellist and violinist competition, and they are being evaluated by an authoritative international jury – Prof. Zakhar Bronas (Chairman of the Violinist Jury), Prof. David Geringas (Chairman of the Cellist Jury), Rolanda Ginkutė (Lithuania / Qatar), Jorge Gil Gacia (Spain), Michael Stricharz (Germany), Maurizio Sciarretta (Italy), Maija Priedelė (Latvia), Ramutė Kalnėnaitė and Audronė Žigaitytė-Nekrošienė (both Lithuania).
The auditions for the competition were held at the Šiauliai Singing School “Dagilėlis”, and the final gala concert of the competition winners and performers will be held on June 30 at 6:00 p.m. Šiauliai Concert Hall “Saulė” (invitations: ticketmaster.lt).
During the opening of the competition, the participants, the jury and the audience were greeted with musical works by Šiauliai city music educators – the string group of the Šiauliai City Symphony Orchestra “Camerata Solaris”. On behalf of the organizers, the initiator of the competition and long-time artistic director, teacher expert Nijolė Prascevičienė, and the director of Šiauliai Saulius Sondeckis Arts Gymnasium Dr. Regina Marozienė, who noted that this competition is very important for young musical talents striving for excellence in music, delivered welcoming remarks. The audience was also introduced to the International Jury. The chairman of the violin jury, prof. Zakhar Bron, and the chairman of the cello jury, prof. David Geringas, congratulated the participants and wished them success in the competition.
On the first day of the competition, auditions for the first round of the competition were held. Category A violinists and cellists and category C violinists performed their programs. The first round of auditions for category C cellists also began.
After the first day of the competition, the judging panel noted the extremely high musical preparation of the contestants, so it was decided that all category A violinists and cellists and category C violinists would enter the second round.
On June 23, auditions for the contestants will continue at the Šiauliai Singing School “Dagilėlis” from the very morning, and at 4:30 p.m. the first awards are scheduled to be presented.
